Stupid Parochial School Haircut Rules

When I attended a Catholic grammar school in the 1960's, the Brothers were insanely strict about boy's hair styles. One year, I got a square back, which simply meant that the barber cut the hair along the back of the neck in a straight line, rather than use the electric razor to taper it. This was NOT a pompadour, D.A., Beatles or any other type of wild, or "punk", hair style. I was told by the principle, a "Brother", that he had just paddled another boy the day before for coming to school with this style (which turned out to be true), and I had to go back to the barber to get it changed - or get hit.

Thankfully, that school is now closed - along with many others like it.
