When I was a Kid we lived on Rockaway Parkway near Lenox Road and often walked or biked to the end of Rockaway Parkway beyond Linden Blvd. and the old Beth-El hospital. If I remember correctly the tracks were elevated on a mound of dirt, but there was no way to get thru to the other side. My guess is that when the train tracks were laid there was little on the other side to get to so it was decided not to have any access to the other side.
