I lived on Webster (303) bet. E.8 & Ocean Parkway from about 1953-64, but don't remember a John Cook.

For people who were challenged, there was a guy with a hairlip who was playing with kids in the 217 schoolyard when he was about 20 and we were like 12. Besides the hairlip, he could hardly speak and was retarded in other ways.

There was also a "little person" kid who was about the same height as the other kids.

There was also a guy who's last name was Dierker, I think, who lived in the pvt. house to the right of 615 Westminster across from 217. He had a brother who lost his legs when he let a fishing pole touch the 3rd rail on the Newkirk Ave. subway tracks. This Dierker once hit one of my friends in the face with a big wrench when they were walking along a ledge in between 615 and his house to spy on some other friend who lived in 615. My friend had some plastic surgery and was ok, but that Dierker wasn't all there in the first place. I forgot what happened to him, but I think he was "sent away."
