The author of the book "The Canarsie and Rockaway Beach Railroad" -- William Fausser -- pointed out that to save the city and the railroad money, Linden Blvd. was moved so that it passed under both the Long Island railroad (Conrail) and Canarsie Line tracks at the point where there were less tracks (narrowest point). That is why Linden Blvd. makes that wicked turn toward Hegeman Avenue east of Rockaway Parkway and then goes back to it's proper alignment at Alabama Ave.

Take note: DeWitt Ave. runs the actual alignment of Linden Blvd. from Ditmas Ave. to Alabama Ave. if Linden had ran straight through the railroad embankment. It was cheaper to realign the street rather than tunnel under the railroad property! Strange, but true!
