We called it "going raga muffin". I read an article not too long ago where it was a big deal but by the early '50s it went out of favor.

You dressed in old clothes - usually your father's and went out in the morning of Thanksgiving. "Anything for Thanksgiving?" was the question when the door opened.

You got candy, fruit and change

My neighborhood was dominantly 1 and 2 family brick row houses with nice stoops. My cousin George and I would race along opposite sides of the street to beat out the other kids because the home owner got a bit testy with wave after wave of kids ringing the bell.

$33 must be a record!
