I remember seeing the large crowd on television, who were waiting outside the church, when there were was a memorial service being held for Gil Hodges, in the Spring of 1972, shortly after his death. As soon as Mayor John V. Lindsay came out of his limousine, the entire crowd erupted with very loud boos. It was a very undignified thing to do on that occasion, butthe Mayor, was not very popular at that time.
I hope that Gil Hodges is finally voted into the Hall of Fame. I visited the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. It was quite an impressive place to see.
