My dad still lives in the house in Maspeth that I grew up in. I often think that I wouldn't mind living back there the older I get. That is if the same neighbors that are there now would be there long term. But, that's a real crapshoot on what happens, especially with attached houses. We live in a suburban type subdivision in Idaho and I enjoy the space between homes - sometimes that isn't even enough! Going back as a visitor is different than living in a place day in and day out. I miss a lot about Maspeth and New York but I wonder how I'd feel after months instead of just a couple of days or weeks. Can you really ever go back and find it the way you remember it?
